Telecommunications Design Engineer
Location: Remote

Allied Resource are proud to be working with a UK leader in the provision of infrastructure services to the telecommunications and utilities sectors. Based in Scotland, our client now requires a Telecommunications Design Engineer to hold responsibility for producing high-quality design and bid solutions according to customer requirements and spec. Working closely with both customer and accounting teams you will refine requirements, provide guidance, and offer assistance on solutions strategies that are operationally and commercially viable, whilst always remaining deliverable.
Responsibilities:
- Collate and interpret your customer’s requirements and produce complex design solutions that are buildable, repeatable, scalable and that efficiently utilise existing services and templates.
- Act as internal sign-off for technical artefacts including design, test & implementation approach, operational handovers, support etc.
- Show an ability to leverage, influence and maintain resolve under pressure from internal and external stakeholders always ensuring the desired technical and project outcome, maintaining adherence to design standards and principles.
- Build and nurture relationships with your customers to ensure their trust in your position as the end-to-end technical authority within the business.
- Ensure design solutions are deployed and operated in line with customer agreements, and any deviations from specification are recorded and reported.
- Act as internal QA for design and implementation processes.
Must Have:
- At least 5 years of experience operating in a technical, consultancy or solutions design role, with proven expertise in the design, testing requirements, definition of standards and bringing into service of the following:
o Black-start compliant, mission-critical, low latency networks and services using PDH/SDH and IP/MPLS tech over a mix of microwave (P2P), fibre, and leased-line products including OSA products and OR EAD.
o IP Network with good understanding of L2&L3 network components for design of LAN/WAN services.
o PDH/SDH Technology and design of sub-rate low latency services including V&X data, optical teleprotection and voice frequency.
o Fibre systems including electrical utility fibre deployment, fibre characteristics, 3rd party fibre and ground deploy.
o Telco and electrical substation environment.
o DC Power supply and battery systems.
o Microwave Radio
o Copper Xdsl products over “pilot cables”, to include services via SHDSL and BT WBMC.
o Synchronisation networks (SSU, PRC, frequency, SEC, PTP and NTP)
o Satellite services (e.g. T-SAT and BGAN)
- Sound understanding of design methodology best practice and telco processes and frameworks (ITIL or Etom) delivery complex solutions.
- Self-motivated with a can-do attitude and strong ability to learn new skills and technologies.
- Current and continually updated knowledge on industry standards.
- Solid understanding of HLD, LLD and BOM concepts and conversant with developing project costing.
